Carolina One employees and agents are the key to our fundraising and volunteer effort. Carolina One Cares is an initiative to care, support, love and lend a hand when and where it’s needed and their participation in The CBB over the last decade has been vital. Each office is encouraged to raise as much money as possible to reach our goal and sign up as many assembly and delivery volunteers as possible for assembly day. Additionally, Michael Scarafile, President of Carolina One Real Estate covers ALL of our operating expenses every year (including our boxes!), so 100% of the money we raise can go to buy food.
All of the food for the Basket Brigade is purchased from Lowcountry Grocers. Piggly Wiggly employees are a huge help in organizing and delivering all of the food to our staging site for the meal assembly. The company also provides a discount on food purchases as well the delivery of 4,000 meals on three 18 wheeler trucks! This would not be made possible without the coordination from Lynn Willard and Craig Kelly.
Check out Craig Kelley from Lowcountry Grocers talk to Temple Ricke from News 2 about our 2018 event…
Meal Recipients
Communities In Schools is an incredible non-profit organisation that provides multiple dropout prevention services and helps support basic needs of high risk students. This organisation has 7 main office staff members and 21 in-school employees working in 24 Charleston County and Berkeley County schools to serve over 11,800 students.
CIS employees and community partners provide the Basket Brigade with a list of families in need each year. They contact the families and let them know they will be receiving a meal. Additionally, many of the amazing CIS senior staff members volunteer their time to help with the mapping for the deliveries in the days before the event.
